In Response to COVID-19, online English Proficiency Test for NTUS

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, many standardized English exams are cancelled or postponed. As a response to this problem, the Language Center will organize an online English test for graduate students who are to do their thesis oral defense this semester, but have not yet fulfilled the English proficiency requirement as stipulated by their programs.

1. Test eligibility: This test is for graduate students who are planning to do thesis oral defense this semester, but haven’t obtained an official English exam report or haven’t earned sufficient English course credit from undergraduate English courses.

※There are limited seats. If you are not planning to complete your graduate studies this semester, please don’t register for this test. The Language Center will review the eligibility of those who register for the test.

2. Registration Period: From now on until May 28 (Register online:

3. Test Dates: Tuesday, June 15, to Friday, June 18. (Several online test sessions will be held during this period.)

4. Complete lists of eligible test-takers are to be posted Friday, June 4, at 5:00 PM on the website of the Language Center.

5. Online Testing Guidance:

(1) When the test starts, you will log in to the test website at the designated time. This is an adaptive test with test items of listening comprehension, reading, grammar and vocabulary.

(2) You will be required to turn on your cellphone camera and keep connected to a video streaming system during the whole test as the Language Center supervises the test.

(3) No official certificates or score reports are to be issued.

6. Test Information Announcement: Test session information will be posted Friday, June 11 by 5:00 PM on the website of the Language Center.

7. Test Results: The test results will be forwarded to programs or institutes the you are enrolled in. The test results are then to be interpreted by each graduate program or institute to decide if the score meets their English proficiency requirement.
