【Important Notice】 Announcement of Session Information of Online English Proficiency Test

Complete session information for the English Proficiency test and the Test Guide are attached at the bottom of this webpage. Read the general guidelines for the test:

Test Dates and Time: Tuesday, June 15, to Friday, June 18. (Open the file attached at the bottom and find your test time. It is highly advised that you log in to Google Meeting and set up your computer TEN minutes earlier than the designated time.)

1. Oxford Online Placement Test will be used. There will be testing items assessing your English reading and listening ability. You need to have headphones or earphones ready. Find a private and quiet place where no other people are present. If there is any indication of cheating during the test, the score will NOT be used.

2. Make sure you have both your student ID card and another photo ID, such as your Passport, ARC, etc.

3. If you reach CEFR B1 level on this test, you will have fulfilled the English Proficiency Requirement of NTUST. You do not need to apply for a waiver after the test.

4. Required Equipment:

A. a computer or laptop

B. a cellphone

C. headphones or earphones

5. Test Setting:

A. Make sure both your computer and cellphone can be connected to the internet

stably during the test.

B. The headphones are connected to the computer for listening comprehension questions.

C. You are required to log in to a Google Meet meeting session with your camera turned on through out the whole test for test administration and supervision.

D. You have to test your headphones and adjust the audio volume before the test starts to avoid any sound problems during the test.

6. Test Procedure: You will follow the instructions given to you by the test supervisor via Google Meet before you log in to the test website and start the test online.

7. Test Supervision:

A. Make sure you have a photo ID and your student ID card ready for verification before the test starts.

B. After you log in to the test, place the cellphone in a position with the camera on so that you can be clearly seen by the test supervisor during the whole test.

NOTE:  The test is about 50 to 90 minutes (depending on what questions are assigned to you). Make sure your cellphone is fully charged (you may want to keep it charged during the test just in case). If there is connection disruption during the test, the test scores may NOT be used.

9. Test Format:

This is an adaptive English test. You will be assigned questions of different levels based on your accuracy rate. The test consists of approximately 45 question items and may last as long as 90 minutes. There are reading and listening questions. The reading section tests your grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehension. The listening section consists of questions on understanding short talks and conversations. The test is on general English proficiency and is not focused on certain specific content areas. You can use standardized English proficiency tests for practice, such as TOEIC, GEPT, IELTS, or TOEFL.
